Monochrome Books Launches Soon With Meditations, Ancient Wisdom On Black Paper

February 23 17:57 2021

Launching soon on the popular crowdfunding platform, Kickstarter, Monochrome Books presents the black paper edition of Meditationsby Marcus Aurelius. It will be fully printed on black paper using centuries-old techniques and technology. This Kickstarter campaign will introduce a new type of book for the 21st century, an exciting special edition of one of history’s most significant and influential books.

Black text on a white background has been the norm for books and published materials for as long as people have been putting pen to paper. But reading dark text on a light background can be tiring, leading to weary eyes, headaches, and a lack of focus.

This is the philosophy behind Monochrome Books, a publishing venture entirely based on black paper. White ink printed on black paper is easier to read, more aesthetically pleasing, less tiring on the eyes, and creates a gorgeous visual effect. Monochrome books will be a combination of the beautiful and the practical – functional items that are also unique pieces of design.

Meditations by Marcus Aurelius will be the limited edition debut of Monochrome Books. This remarkable work is widely regarded as one of the most influential works ever penned and one of the cornerstones of Stoic philosophy. It is a fascinating insight into the mind – a personal journal of thoughts and reflections of one of history’s most significant figures.

Luis Ferro, Publisher, Monochrome Books, said: “Black paper books are a wonderful combination of form and function that elevates the written word to something even more beautiful. As one of the most important books in the history of the world, Meditations is the perfect starting point for Monochrome Books”.

Monochrome Books launches today with a grand ambition – to reinvent the pleasure of reading. With the publication of Meditations, they will create a new type of book for the 20th century, the perfect combination of beautiful design and reading comfort.

Stoicism

Stoicism is one of the great philosophies of Classical antiquity, influencing great historical figures from emperors and presidents to inventors and people in business. Founded in the 3rd century BC by Zeno of Citium, it was brought to prominence by the Roman Emperor Marcus Aurelius – the playwright and political advisor Seneca, former slave-turned-teacher Epictetus.

Stoicism teaches the importance of accepting things that we cannot change and the virtues of wisdom, justice, temperance, and courage. It is one of the few great Classical philosophies with direct, real-world applications and can help its adherents become more resilient, happier, and more successful.

Marcus Aurelius

Marcus Aurelius was arguably the last of the great Roman Emperors and one of the most influential figures in the history of Stoicism. He ruled the Roman Empire from 161 to 180 AD, and the end of his reign is considered to mark the end of the Pax Romana period of Roman history.
