INDIANAPOLIS – Family comes first for artist and designer Laura Dro. Her company and work are inspired not only by her parents, but also by her grandmother, husband, and children. From a young age, she was told to find something to do in life that she loved. This prompted her to pursue her creative endeavors in which she felt most herself.
“My dad has always told me to make work not feel like work,” Laura said, “I liked that aspect of do what you love.”
After attending school for art and design, Laura then carried on her inspiration through her grandmother which her business is inspired by. Spending hours after school in her grandmother’s antique shop, called Laura’s Attic, based in Jacksonville, FL in the ’90s, Laura grew up surrounded by vintage textiles and painting alongside her grandmother. The creative and entrepreneurial spirit was instilled in Laura through these experiences at a young age.
Now, Laura continues to be motivated toward success by her husband and children. She knows that she is a role model for her children and hopes to be the same for other young people who might be inspired by her work.
“Everyone, in some small way, since I was little to now, has gotten me here,” said Laura Dro.
Her 2021 product launch features handcrafted pieces like embroidered pillows, wallpaper, tea towels, and even hand-painted fabrics which draw from her original inspiration—her grandmother. With the image of her grandmother painting scenic views in the back of her mind, and her children exploring her studio, Laura has created wonderful artwork, patterns and designs that are featured on her products.
