Tim, a British furniture designer who came to Foshan city of China’s Guangdong province, is happy to have Chinese skilled craftsmen working with him to produce world-class furniture sets. The designer, who has spent more than 15 years in the Chinese city of Foshan, has successfully set up a furniture design studio and a factory where he has a close-knit team of Chinese skilled craftsmen who help him materialize his dream designs. The company exports A-class furniture items worldwide, and Tim and his team reported that the shipments increased manifold in 2022, just like in 2020, when the shipment volume exceeded by 20% from previous year.

Tim, who is an ace furniture designer himself, likes to apply color fading treatment on furniture. He uses sand paper or cut dents and wormholes to give the furniture a touch of history.

 

On the production side, Tim’s ideas are too wild and the concept is difficult to implement. After traveling to many countries including Vietnam and India, he came to Foshan for the first time and unexpectedly discovered that the workers in Foshan were able to complete his design. In a recent interview with Kimchi, a local press correspondent, Tim said that he feels very fortunate to be able to live in China.

“I came to Foshan for the first time after many countries. I showed my designs to workers in many countries and the answer I got before was no. But here, it is different. Foshan craftsmen are amazing. They inspired me to set up a home in Foshan. I am proud of my Chinese team. My team works very efficiently. Because of them, the company has achieved its sales targets”, said Tim as he spoke to Kimchi.

“Everything you see in this room are made by humans. The girls are even better than the boys. This is why I chose to work with them. Chinese girls are fantastic. They are hardworking and diligent”, he added.

Tim is an admirer of Chinese culture and traditions too. He often travels to Guizhou province of China to learn the ancient dying technique of the Dong minority people of China and the knowledge he gains is utilized by the Chinese skilled craftsmen. The fabric sofa Tim and his team manufactured is one of the most comfortable sofas in the world, Tim claimed, while also adding that the product is selling well in Europe.
